Despite being officially a part of China, Hong Kong exists as a world of its own. This vibrant city is rich in both historical and contemporary architecture, teeming with people and — naturally — offering the finest dim sum available. Make your way to the Kowloon Peninsula for shopping on Nathan Road at Golden Mile. Next, head over to Hong Kong Island to enjoy the vistas from the summit of Victoria Peak — where you can view both the skyscrapers of the financial sector and the fishing village at Stanley Harbour. Sail to Hong Kong and hike to the hilly Lantau Island to view the renowned Tian Tan Buddha, which towers at an impressive 112 feet. Alternatively, find some peaceful moments at Hong Kong Park, featuring serene rock gardens and paths lined with trees.
The Peak Tram ascends to Victoria Peak, Hong Kong's mountain that rises 1,800 feet. More affordable buses will take you there as well. When you reach the summit, take a moment to enjoy the sights of the city from the hiking paths. The Peak provides a respite from the subtropical weather below — the air in this area is cooler and has lower humidity.
On the opposite side of Hong Kong Island, Stanley Harbour offers you a glimpse of an alternative Hong Kong. It’s a fishing community located in Repulse Bay featuring a beautiful coastal walkway (capture some pictures of the fishing vessels) along with a renowned street market. There is plenty of British history, a promenade, and also some beaches. You can catch the bus from Central for a picturesque journey, although the express bus is quicker.
